As a singer/songwriter, Dan Parsons conjures up the essence of troubadour folk-rock and classic Americana influences, exploring the triumphs and anxieties of the human experience. Evoking the sun-hazed days of Laurel Canyon combined with the cinematic shine of the iPhone generation, his rich baritone voice and deft guitar style never fail to enthrall audiences of all ages.
In August 2018 he released his new album ‘Sunday Morning Cinema’ and launched across the country on a national tour. The track ‘Dream On Lover’ landed on multiple Spotify-curated playlists around the world (Fresh Folk, New Music Friday), and the first single ‘Here Goes Nothin’ held the #1 spot on the AMRAP/AirIt regional charts for two weeks as well as receiving national rotation on ABC radio. In February of 2109, Parsons’ was invited to showcase at the Folk Alliance International conference in Montreal, where he performed for industry and fans alike.
He has released three other critically acclaimed solo albums – ‘Firestarter’ (2010) which saw him showcase at Musexpo LA, The Great Escape and Liverpool Sound City UK, ‘Dan Parsons’ (2013) and ‘Valleywood’ (2015) which was nominated for ‘Best Folk-Roots Album’ in The Age Music Victoria Awards and saw him perform in Nashville at the Bluebird Cafe. Parsons is also a highly sought after session musician, touring Australia and internationally with Marlon Williams, Kate Miller-Heidke, Ella Hooper and Tracy McNeil & The GoodLife.
Returning from a three-month joint tour, navigating the wild mountains roads and Great Lakes of Canada with fellow singer/songwriter Tracy McNeil, Dan Parsons returns home from a North American Summer to play a series of east coast Australia shows, both solo and with his trio.
As the leading singles gained speed, ’Stars’ garnering a review by Triple J’s Roots n’ All proclaiming McNeil as “the female Ryan Adams with more pop sensibility” and ‘Not Like a Brother’ landing on Double J, ABC Country and ABC Local playlists amongst a stack of great reviews – Tracy McNeil & The GoodLife are off and running with what many are saying is her best material to date.
Throughout her musical career, she has supported international artists Dawes, Old Crow Medicine Show, Eilen Jewell, Mary Gauthier, Tony Joe White, Weddings Parties Anything and Australian Crawl legend James Reyne.
She has played sold-out shows in Melbourne, a recent national three month Canadian tour and played major festivals including Artwells (CAN), Ness Creek Music Festival (CAN), AmericanaFest (Sounds Australia Showcase) Nashville (USA), and Australian festivals Out On The Weekend, Port Fairy Folk Festival, Dashville Skyline, Bigsound and Australian Music Week.
Tracy McNeil & The GoodLife features multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Dan Parsons on lead guitar, Tracy McNeil on rhythm guitar and lead vocals, Bree Hartley on drums, Craig Kelly on bass and Brendan McMahon on keys.
Featured in Rolling Stone’s coveted ‘Future is Now’ segment, they highlighted Thieves as “dazzing fourth LP…a technicolour West Coast dreamscape: the sound of sunrise over cedars and noonday Joshua Trees and high desert dusk…” (4 stars).
“Tracy’s band The GoodLife are a true-super group made up of stellar musicians in the tradition of mid-period Fleetwood Mac.” – Basement Discs
