David Bridie is one of the true individualists and innovators of Australian music, carving a unique path through a shifting cultural landscape to remain true to his singular vision and ethics. From the global impact of his seminal 1980s and 1990s alt-pop groups Not Drowning, Waving and My Friend The Chocolate Cake to his ongoing work as a solo artist and soundtrack composer, the scale of David’s output and influence are matched by few Australian artists. His contribution has been recognised by numerous ARIA awards, The Australia Council’s Don Banks Award (2019); a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of Independent Record Labels (2025) for his work championing First nations and Pacific Musicians through the not-for-profit record label Wantok Musik; and most recently the AACTA award for documentary soundtrack for his work on “David Gulpilil Journey Home” (2026)- just some of a long list of accolades that David has collected across three decades of commitment to his craft and his community. David’s first love is performing live and for these shows he performs with guitarist Rosie Excess, navigating his way through highlights of his back catalogue in an intimate, atmospheric set.
