Trio Petra are three mult-intstrumentalists specialising in the traditional folk music of regional Greece, Turkey, and the Balkans.

The trio consists of Paddy Montgomery, Paul Dounias and Byron Triandafillidis.
Each of these musicians have spent many years studying these genres on their respective instruments, gathering songs and stories along the way.

Mixing just the appropriate amount of new ideas with old tunes, the trio utilises an array of traditional stringed instruments and percussion that may not have been seen
on so many Australian stages before. These include the various Lyras (pear-shaped fiddle) and Laouto (large bodied, steel-strung lute), the bendir and touberleki (frame and clay drums).

With a heavy focus on dance music, the trio performs a range of regional folk music in a tasteful and authentic manner. F
From Macedonia to Crete, Epirus to Rhodes via Thrace. Perhaps with a small detour to Constantinople in the early 1920s.

Their love of all Mediterranean and Middle Eastern musical idioms is the driving force behind the sound.
This trio has one goal only, to play what we love and share it.
