Dorrigo Folk & Bluegrass Festival 23rd, 24th & 25th October 2015
We welcome old and new Festival patrons to Dorrigo Mountain for an intimate and friendly three-day weekend of acoustic music featuring some of the very best Folk and Bluegrass and Old-Time country musicians from around Australia and overseas.
It's a time when our picturesque Dorrigo showground comes alive with concerts, workshops, dancing, jamming, impromptu performances, poetry and children's entertainment.
We would like to say a heartfelt THANKYOU to everybody who helped to make our Thirteenth Dorrigo Folk and Bluegrass festival the amazing weekend it was.
Thankyou to our wonderful performers who gave their all; despite an uncanny Dorrigo heatwave (perhaps we should have a Concert at The Dangar Falls!).
Thankyou to our hard working sound teams: to Tony and Shane, Roger and Glen and Dave for ensuring clear sound and that everyone is happy .
Thankyou to our Sponsors for your support: To Dorrigo Heritage Hotel, to Essential Energy and The Bellingen Shire council. along with Dorrigo IGA, Holcim, and Pepperprint.
Thankyou to all our smiling Volunteers who worked so hard before, during and after the weekend .
Thankyou to Lynda and her Team in the Ticket Office and Merchandise Booth.
Thankyou to our Organising Committee and to the Arts Council of the Dorrigo.
There are some great photo memories to have a look through and we will have another little video gem from Kell Stoner to share in the not too distant future.
The 2015 14th Annual Dorrigo Folk and Bluegrass Festival is shaping up to be one of the best yet - with an exceptional line-up and some new surprises in store. Each year we aim to improve on the last, and this year will be no exception!
Fresh Dorrigo mountain weather, a wonderful atmosphere, an outstanding line-up and responsive crowds all combine to make it one of the most highly regarded events on the Australian festival circuit - big enough to draw world-renowned artists, yet relaxed, intimate and accessible enough to be known as "a Great Little Festival".
This year we will be extending the scope of The Dorrigo Folk and Bluegrass Festival by featuring more brilliant performers from the USA – home of Bluegrass and Old-Time mountain music, adding their extra dimension of experience and authenticity to the mix.
As well as the Main Pavillion Stage, the recently renovated Luncheon Pavillion Stage, and the "Tallowood Venue", we will also have a new "Mini Big Top" Circus Tent Venue, allowing for more intimate acoustic performances, and more "blackboard spot" opportunities.
The Festival kicks off on Friday night with a foot-stomping Community HoeDown Dance in the Main Pavilion. In keeping with being a family friendly event, tickets for the Community Hoe-Down Dance are only $25 for a family.
"Fire, Friends and Fiddles"
Recently Kelly Stoner produced a particularly sweet short video documentary that captures the essence and atmosphere of the Dorrigo Folk and Bluegrass Festival. You can view it HERE on Vimeo.
Upcoming Concerts in Dorrigo
As Summer draws to a close, February will be a busy month with some of the world’s finest music makers and songwriters visiting and performing in Dorrigo.
First up we have Fred Smith with special guest Liz Frencham, appearing on February 5th at Food Angel Café.
Fred and Liz have been to the Dorrigo Folk & BluegrassFestival several times now and are always a well-deserved favourite.
Fred is one of Australia’s leading songwriters and he has taken us on many different journeys over the years but this time he brings us ‘Home’, the title of his most recent CD.
It is an album of transitions. Fred returned from his latest spell in Afghanistan late in 2013, his baby daughter, Olympia, was born in January.
It is an album of coming home and calming down. Most songs are set in a domestic frontier, a couple are delightfully frivolous, a couple deal with the “difficult return “faced by soldiers and includes the remarkable "Derapet" written following a request from a Brisbane soldier to honour his mate Jaryd “Crash” Mckinney killed at the Battle Of Derapet.

Thirdly , on Saturday February 21st, at Food Angel Café, Canadian Singer/Songwriter Gordie Tentrees has included Dorrigo as part of his first Australian Tour. After spending most of his young adult life struggling with the effects of being raised in a violent home, Tentrees took charge of his life, taking up a variety of sports, dance and theatre. He became a three-time Golden Glove Champion, also working in a cross section of jobs, school teacher, youth worker, counsellor and mentor for at risk kids.
At 25 he wrote his first song and over the past ten years has earned himself a well deserved reputation as one of Canada’s hardest working and touring musicians. Earning Awards for his performances and songwriting.
Come along and hear songs from a man whom The Americana Roots Magazine states should be a household name.
